Welcome to Seinäjoki – the time-honoured World Championships city!

The World Junior Speed Skating Championships are organised in Seinäjoki already for the fourth time. The City of Seinäjoki rejoices of this possibility to host the championships once again and heartily welcomes all championship guests to Seinäjoki.

Seinäjoki has many successful representatives in speed skating both at the junior level and at the international top level. Speed skater Pekka Koskela is the most successful and famous top skater from Seinäjoki. Also future looks promising, maybe more promising than ever before. We are expecting a great success for Seinäjoki also in these World Junior Speed Skating Championships!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the International Skating Union and the Finnish Speed Skating Association for granting the championships to Finland and Seinäjoki. I also wish to thank the Seinäjoen Urheilijat sports club, which is responsible for the successful execution of the championships as the organising club.

I also wish all championship guests welcome to explore the City of Seinäjoki. Our small city is going through the most intensive development phase of its history and is, at the moment, one of the fastest growing cities in Finland. Construction is active and our city continuously gains new residents.

I hope that you will have a great stay at Seinäjoki and that you will get to experience immemorial and exciting moments at the World Junior Speed Skating Championships.

Jorma Rasinmäki
Mayor
City of Seinäjoki
